Much of Wakefield’s history and culture is contained in its older buildings. These properties provide today’s Wakefield people with important links to the history and culture of previous generations. Historic buildings form the core of most Nebraska cities, towns, and agricultural communities and reflect the unique character of a community. Historic buildings and historical sites are essential components of communities. The Wakefield Heritage Organization cites as one of its purposes: "to maintain for the benefit of future generations the essential characteristics of the Wakefield Heritage.”
